In addition to offering bookbinding and conservation treatments, Anonymous Bookbinder can provide a broad range of conservation and preservation services for libraries, archives and other collections holding institutions.

For many institutions, a broad-based preservation survey is often the best starting place for effective preservation planning. These surveys help to evaluate the policies, practices and conditions of an institution that affect the preservation of their collections; they also include an evaluation of environmental conditions, storage and handling practices, in-house repair methods, exhibition policy, disaster preparedness, among other factors.

While direct involvement of the institution's staff in these efforts is always recommended, most agencies and organizations that award conservation and preservation grants will support the cost of a qualified preservation consultant to conduct the survey and prepare a report.  These reports can provide the foundation for addressing both short-term and long-term preservation needs, and they can help facilitate further preservation planning, programming and policy development by the institution's staff.  They can also be crucial in securing future grant support.

A collection assessment survey is similarly concerned with short and long-term preservation goals of the institution, but is usually designed to take a closer look at specific conservation treatment needs.  This may involve an item-by-item examination of some collections or parts of a collection, or a statistical sample of large collections.  In either case, the purpose is usually to assess the needs for various categories of treatment, develop treatment priorities, and make project cost projections.

Anonymous Bookbinder has extensive preservation consulting experience that includes conducting large and small scale surveys of both types. In addition, we also have considerable experience with strategic planning, preservation program evaluation, along with grant application development and review. We can also provide staff training in appropriate conservation repair techniques, and assist institutions with designing and implementing on-going collection care services.  In some cases, we may also be able to offer contractual collection care services.

Anonymous Bookbinder's long experience with libraries and with preservation consulting means that we are uniquely placed to offer a full range of conservation services to institutions and collections, large and small.
